Canal Q is a Portuguese cable TV channel that focuses on original programming in the areas of entertainment, humour and information. We created the new visual identity and on-air package, which won the top 2014 design awards in Portugal.
The previous identity had an overly institutional vibe that Canal Q wanted to shake off, so one of the objectives was to reposition Canal Q as a cool indie content producer, while making it appealing to a younger audience. On top of that, we wanted the identity to be approachable and have some sort of real-life, palpable form.
To achieve this, the logo was designed to work as a stage, where a myriad of wonky things can happen. This stage is an open source tool that can be used by the channel’s in-house team to further expand their visual universe.
It was a long but rewarding process that got us the following awards:
